It’s the perfect time to squeeze out a bit more Fall decor before people lose all excuses and switch to a more wintery aesthetic!

It’s also a perfect time to adopt a mindset of abundance and gratefulness, over one of scarcity and fear. Happy Thanksgiving week!!

(But mostly, it’s the perfect time for me to swap out last year’s fresh winter greenery wreath with a quick no mechanics wreath using leftover dried local bittersweet vine from @solpatchgarden hehe)

Another wedding season (just about) in the books 🎉

It’s always a little jarring when the grind of weddings every weekend slows down, but it’s always a pause I’m grateful for. Cooler weather always feels like the perfect time to slow down.

I’ve already been feeling more creative and inspired as my schedule and my mental capacity is opening up, and I’m so excited for the coming months, and hopeful for some new opportunities✨

Stretching my creative muscles playing with some leftovers that dried so beautifully in their original installation (minus the lace flower that can just be removed when it starts to droop)

I tried not to trim the hydrangea stems (so they would remain versatile when I use them again for something down the line) and see what I could come up with using them at their current lengths.

I think this muted burgundy is one my new favorite fall colors, and loved working within a monochromatic palette, that still has a ton of depth to it through the natural variation within the flowers. The hydrangeas and amaranthus are both local from @solpatchgarden @pittsburgh_flowers and the quality shows 😍

I did add a touch of floral spray paint to the hydrangea to encourage more of the natural colors to fit the original palate I used them for, but I love how natural it still looks!

But for real.. your wedding day is about YOU and what YOU like, not what Pinterest tells you you should like 🙃

If you’re looking for a fun, modern way to incorporate color into your wedding day, might I suggest color blocking (and also fruit)! It’s a fun way to view a lot of different flower varieties and textures in a way that spotlights them and gives your guests something to chat about at the table.

This wedding was one my most favorite to design. Not only was there an abundance of bright, bold colors, but there was a strong emphasis on each specific color through color blocking, and the way it all worked together was truly incredible (thanks to a strong vision from the bride and the expertise of @wanderlustweddingsandevents in pulling alllll the details together)

I had so much fun finding flowers within each color block, but also those transitional flowers that allowed each color to seamlessly bleed into the next.

Plus, the fruit! Ugh try and name a better accent for floral arrangements 🍇🍊🍋🍑🥝

All this to say, if you’re choosing white and greenery for your wedding because they’re your favorite colors, awesome cool great, let’s do it up in a fun and creative way (+ fruit *cough*). BUT if you’re doing it to make a family member happy, or because it will look TiMeLeSs, or because it’s what the trends are telling you to do…. maybe let’s forget about all that and do what you know you really want to do 🙃

Wildflower weddings are so so fun, because I truly just lead with my heart while I’m designing! I follow loose recipes based on flower shapes and sizes, and then just pull from my @pittsburgh_flowers haul as I feel led 😍

July and August are the most magical times for beautiful, local flowers in Pittsburgh!

The Violet Buzz 🐝

Dropping just in time for Mother’s Day weekend, it’s a flowery spin on your (my) old favorite, the Bees Knees

Instead of straight honey, we’ve got a delightful blackberry honey syrup for the flavor, yes, but also the COLOR 😍

The floral flavors are coming from the pretty purple crème de violette, and we’re sticking with gin and honey to round it all out

Topped with violas from @pyrrhic_victory_garden , it’s the perfect thing to sip while celebrating mom ♥️

🐝The Recipe

2 oz gin
2 oz lemon juice
1 oz blackberry honey syrup *
1 oz crème de violette

*For blackberry honey syrup
6 oz blackberries
1/3 cup honey (or agave to make vegan)
1/2 cup water

Bring all ingredients to a boil in a saucepan. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes before straining. Let cool.

🐝To make the cocktail

1. Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker over ice. Shake for 30 seconds
2. Strain into a glass, and top with edible flowers

If an easy breezy garden party style wedding is up your alley, then listen up! 📣📣

I designed this offering for couples who would put flowers at the top of their list of things that are important to them on their wedding day. Of course, flowers are not inexpensive, so I also had smaller wedding or elopement couples in mind. With that said, this package has the ability to reach farther than that.

To save you money, this is a PICKUP ONLY option, with pieces designed to be quick and easy for you to set up on your own at your venue. You pick the elements you need and your desired color palette, and we’ll pull together garden style arrangements fit for a laid back, relaxed celebration.

The Handpicked Wedding is my offering for Pittsburgh couples who:

🌸 Are obsessed with flowers and want their wedding to be heavy on the floral theme

🌺 Might be planning a smaller celebration and want to choose from an a la carte menu of floral offerings to fit exactly what they want and nothing more

🌼 Don’t have the budget to meet our full service minimum investment, but still want beautiful florals with a laid back feel

🪻Are excited about their wedding florals, but don’t have the interest or bandwidth to be hands on in the planning of their arrangements

Finally, because this package is to help create garden party-esque weddings, I’m also offering some pressed and dried flower accessories to help really carry the floral theme! Things like place cards, signage, toss petals, and even custom on-theme floral cocktail recipes 🥂

Spoiler alert: you don’t need the fancy studio space to have a successful floristry business 🤯

I’ve worked in my basement since I started Field and Hand in 2019, and having a home studio has allowed my business to grow in ways that it couldn’t have if I were working outside the home:

🌱 while working a 9-5 job alongside my business, I didn’t have another space to commute to to work on the flowers. While working full time from home, I could accept deliveries, have people swing by for pickups, and then pop downstairs after my formal work day

🌱 I don’t have to pay extra rent! And home studio expenses are tax deductible

🌱 I can be with my growing family while I work. This one’s the biggest for me. I can be at home with my son, and still make income for my family, in a way that wouldn’t be nearly as feasible if I had a separate workspace

My studio space is far from fancy, the lighting is not great for effortless content creation. But I worked hard, learned a new skill, and made it into a functional space that’s a lot easier to look at (and clean) while I do what I love ♥️

If you’d rather not stress about the conditions for an outdoor wedding, there are still ways to have that natural, garden party feel indoors 🪻

🌺Choose a venue with a lot of character, and some unique focal areas, like this grand staircase @mansionsonfifth , a big fireplace, or a big brick wall

A blank slate is a great place to start!

🌸Figure out your budget for florals, and try and determine what elements are most important to you

Is it your ceremony backdrop? Your bouquet? Guest tables?

If you’re working with a strict budget, one large statement floral piece or installation can do wonders for giving you the feeling of lush abundance, rather than spreading your list of floral pieces across the entire venue for small pops throughout

The best budget tip 💰

Want to get the most bang for your floral buck? Opt for a ceremony altar design that can be repurposed during your reception. Low, arching “meadows” like this one are PERFECT for repurposing.

If you have a limited budget, but still want to make an impact with your flowers, you have a lot of options for double duty designs. Floral pillars can (sometimes, depending on the mechanics) be repurposed behind the sweetheart table, or as a photo backdrop. Ground arrangements from anywhere in your ceremony set up can be used on bars or side tables, in front of your sweetheart table, or as accents on unique areas in your reception space.

We love not wasting flowers as much as you do, so we’ll talk about repurposing options during your initial consult.

THE FIZZY FLEUR
🌸🥂🌼

She’s perfect for brunch or a warm afternoon when you want something light and refreshing (and cute!)

~The recipe~

3/4oz elderflower liqueur
3oz chamomile syrup*
1/2 oz lemon juice
2oz sparkling rosé

*for the chamomile syrup, boil 1 cup of water, and steep 1 chamomile tea bag for 5 minutes. Add 1 tbsp lemon juice and a drizzle of honey and let cool

~The steps~

1. Add elderflower, chamomile syrup, and lemon juice to a cocktail shaker with ice; shake for 30 seconds
2. Pour into a glass, and top with rosé
3. Garnish with a lemon slice

Wedding season starts this weekend for Field and Hand and I’m SO excited to get back into it. Get ready to see some more beautiful bouquets and flower names hit your feed over the coming months 💐💐💐

We’re starting off at none other than Pittsburgh’s NEWEST and HOTTEST venue, @franklinonpennweddings and that’s just gonna be a blast. I’m equally excited to test out the space on Tuesday for their kickoff party and get even MORE pumped 🪩🪩🪩 (lemme know if I’ll see ya there 👀)

I’ve got a lot of fun things on my calendar over the coming months; events, workshops, grab and go bouquets, and obvi weddings! Gonna be busy busy busy but fun fun fun!
